Good Deal

I'm glad all those people were right about the Wickman trade. They said the Indians had to take what they could get for him because he was done after this year.

Everyone knows that trade was a salary dump, regardless whether Wickman pitched next year or not.

If the Indians would have signed Wickman for $6 million as the Braves did, wouldn't we all be whining about how the Indians overpaid for a old, fat pitcher with a reconstructed elbow? Wouldn't we be using that to try and prove that Larry Dolan and Mark Shapiro are idiots?

Yet when the Braves sign Wickman for another year, suddenly the Indians are idiots for dumping him off on the Braves for next to nothing.

The Indians are damned if they do and damned if they don't. We just hold the perceived ineptitude of Indians management so close to our hearts, we have to believe that no matter what they do, it's the wrong move.

... well, OK, erik with a k is basically right, but Vinny is an Italian-American from Youngstown. I wouldn'y go all Roger Brown on him. Vikings do not look good in concrete leisure suits ....

Ah, but I am an Italian American, too. I simply have an ethnically divergent first name. Kind of like Omar Vizquel.

Shapiro was Moneyballed again...this time by J.S. rather than B.Beane...

The point was and remains that Shapiro gave Wickman away too cheaply. I was never opposed to the trade. In fact, I was disappointed that Shapiro didn't use Wickman and other junk to get Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez from the Reds.

Erik, you're not that guy who sits on the third baseline with the "I (heart) Shapiro" shirt are you?

No, but I might be the guy in the background of the Cavs pregame show with the "Marry Me Sharon Reed" shirt.

Sharon's a slice and obviously has the right attitude about nudity.

Although your judgment about the Wickman trade is suspect, you've redeemed yourself with your last comment.

... once again guys are able to find common ground marveling at a spectacular set of cans ... I hope Donald Rumsfeld is visiting this site.

I agree with the Starfish. I haven't had a "feel good" moment like this since they cancelled Touched by an Angel.
