Seventh Round

The Browns' seventh round pick, Justin Hamilton, is a safety from Virginia Tech. He's got great size and speed, but is raw. He was converted to safety just last season, having previously played tailback and wide receiver for the Hokies.

I like this pick. Hamilton's obviously a project, but he's already proven himself to be a pretty selfless player. Despite being Tech's leading receiver in 2003, he was converted to tailback in 2004 due to an injury to starter Cedric Humes, and then was converted to defense as a senior because the secondary had only one returning starter.

Looks like a versatile athlete and a team player to me--exactly the kind of guy you want to take a flyer on in the last round.

I really like this pick too. He's probably going to be lining up on the kick off team and will play as an extra DB in the nickel package.

All in all, a pretty good draft, but I remain astounded by the third and fourth rounds. I think those two rounds keep this from being a draft the football talking heads praise.

I hope Savage was right on those three picks.

Unfortunately, I think the 3rd round pick says that the Browns don't have a lot of confidence about Braylon Edwards' knee injury.

Rhino, I don't think the 3rd round pick says that at all. We know Edwards won't be ready by game 1, leaving us with Joe J. as our #1 receiver, followed up by DCutt. That's not very promising, I think any help we could get would be needed.

You're probably right, Jimbo. I'm just bitter about the endless parade of high draft picks this team has thrown away on this position.

Since 1999, the Browns have drafted the following WRs: Kevin Johnson, Darrin Chiaverrini, Dennis Northcutt, JuJuan Dawson, Quincy Morgan, Andre Davis, Andre King, Braylon Edwards and this kid.

Awesome, huh? It gets even better when you remember that all but Chiaverrini and King were picked before the 4th round.
