Goat Boy

Hi! My name's Pete Carroll. I love to call fake punts when I'm up by 31 points in the 4th quarter. Running up the score is fun, fun, fun!

I also love to go for it when my team's got a 4th and 2 around midfield and is trying to protect a five point lead in the National Championship Game. Gee, that sure didn't turn out to be as much fun as running up the score.

But hey, how was I supposed to know that giving Vince Young a short field tonight wasn't such a great idea?

I thought USC was going to take this one.

Aside from that mistake, the biggest lesson I learned last night was that USC and Texas are far cries from the juggernauts they were held out to be this year.

No doubt Vince Young is a stud. But as the Rhino points out, my feeling is that neither USC nor Texas is a national champion if they played in the Big 10, SEC, or even the ACC.

One thing's for certain -- if Jim Tressel had been coaching USC for their final offensive play before Texas went ahead for the win, USC would be holding the championship this morning -- you're supposed to punt when you're up by five with two minutes left and the ball is on the 50 yard line.

I'm anxiously awaiting September 9, 2006 in Austin. Go Bucks.
